I am an old man now

Someone recently asked me about what may very will become the next American Revolution and they seemed to think I would be able to join in. Sometimes I wonder about people and their expectations. They really are not too realistic. While I suppose I can pitch in and try and help out I have to explain to them that being in my 70th year it would not be right to the others that I join up in any sort of a combat role. I am simply too old. I suppose maybe even five or ten years ago I would likely be able to be useful to some small extent but certainly not anymore.  People have no idea of how brutal combat is and what is physically required. It's savage and there is no way in hell I can run up and down hills anymore and duck and dodge. It just isn't going to happen.   I read where the amount of energy expended in combat is similar to what a heavyweight boxer expends during a title bout and I   think it's somewhat of an exaggeration but not a big one.  Even a light guer...

The militia

Ever since MecVeigh blew up the federal building in Oklahoma City the very word 'militia' has had a bum rap. Most people don't seem to know how big an umbrella the militia really is. There are several legal definitions of what the governments, state and federal define it as but it covers a lot more than that. Since Day One back in prehistoric times the various tribes, clans and families would band together for common protection. I suppose you'd grab your club and join in for the festivities and drive out the invaders.   The right to organize for common defense is a long time God Given right. People have the God given right to defend themselves against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It is a God given right to do so. The Constitution of the United States mentions the militia in the Second Amendment where it allows citizens to keep arms for defense of themselves and the state. By that definition it probably means military grade firearms individually although at one tim...

Not all veterans are Rambos.

Veterans are quite often misunderstood. All being a veteran means is that you served in one of the armed services. That's all it means. A lot of people look at veterans with a certain mistique. They think they are superman or battle hardened tough guys or heroes. Although many are, most are not.  Anyone that understands war by extension has to understand logistics and anyone that understands military logistics understands that for every person in the field carrying a weapon there are about 9 people supporting him.  When you put a specific campaign or war in front of the term 'veteran' it paints another picture that may be incomplete. Vietnam veterans had a reputation of being battle hardened fighters and of course, many were. Others were support soldiers.  While the Army and Marines do teach everyone to fire a service rifle, there are a Navy and Air Force veterans that have never shot a gun in their lives, in service or out. Their jobs didn't require it. Yet the pub...
